There is a new trend that has been moving in the Dubai market that is called Cross Stuffing. It refers to the fact that many women in Dubai use their plastic bags to stuff clothes in their suitcases instead of carrying those clothes to the public washroom. This is illegal in Dubai. But it is happening more and it is a symptom of the general trend of poverty in Dubai and the high cost of living.
Instead of saying this is not allowed, I think it is better to say that this is an important part of urban life because it is a dual purpose need. These malls sell a huge variety of clothing, shoes, bags, hats, accessories, watches, and other stuff that are being sold for a very cheap price.
So, the second channel for the growth of this new trend is the shopping malls. The malls sell much more stuff than the beaches and hotels. Their main function is to show different people different brands and styles.
Of course, the mall would have a physical system where you can check out the stuff. But if you compare the prices, the mall is really more expensive than the beaches and hotels because they need to sell these clothes and other stuff at a very low price.
When you go to Dubai, what you can see is people everywhere that are going to the malls or shopping malls. If you visit the malls, you will see that they always have these people of the highest class and those are the people who are using the plastic bags to stuff everything.
The problem of Cross Stuffing in Dubai has been increasing in the last few years. The authorities have banned this practice but it is very hard to enforce because the women in Dubai know that this is not legal in Dubai.
If you try to enforce it, the whole population of Dubai would turn out to be regular beggars. There is no law against this in Dubai but it is considered legal to bring stuff at low prices and put it inside the plastic bags.
This is also a point that can cause conflict. To help solve this problem, the authorities have started to offer incentives to people who would stop Cross Stuffing in Dubai.
On Sunday, a big number of people took a day trip to Dubai. It was all organized by someone who had previously made a trip to Dubai Fee and he wanted to see if the situation had changed. Apparently, this phenomenon is getting really popular in Dubai and the authorities do not have any solution to control it.
